Description

The South East Culvert and the south and east retaining walls of the pond to the east of North Street date from around 1825. The culvert features a segmental arch and a brick parapet topped with Portland stone capping and keystones. To the east, a flight of steps leads up to the road embankment. The retaining walls of the embankment are made of brick and extend on either side of the culvert along the south and east embankments of the eastern part of the ponds, with the eastern wall also having stone capping. This structure, along with the road bridge known as Leoni Bridge, the culvert, and the retaining walls, forms a group with several nearby heritage sites, including No 1 High Street, the entrance gates to the grove, Honeywood Lodge, the wall and gatehouse at Honeywood Walk, Anne Boleyn's Well, St Mary's, Madeley Cottage in Church Hill, and various items on the south side of High Street, such as the Greyhound Inn and the Church of All Saints.
