Description
An early 19th century cottage, situated on Church Hill in Carshalton. The front of the building, facing Church Hill, is two storeys high and has two window bays. The roof is M-shaped, with a hipped end over each window bay. The roof of Madeley Cottage is slate, while St Mary's has a modern pantile roof. The front of the building is constructed of brown brick and features sash windows with glazing bars. The doorways have coved canopies. St Mary's Cottage has a trelliswork porch and a four-panelled door, with the two upper panels glazed. Madeley Cottage has a six-panelled door, with the upper four panels glazed. Madeley Cottage was formerly the home of George Brightling, a local historian.
