Description
The tall stone war memorial is located in the churchyard of St Mary Magdalene Church, approximately 10 meters north of the church's north aisle and across from numbers 3 and 4 Church Walk. It is designed in the style of an Eleanor Cross and consists of three stages. At the top, a small cross sits on a hexagonal lantern. The middle stage features alternating blind and pierced arches and includes a sculpture of St George standing over the defeated dragon in the front-facing arcade.
The bottom stage, also hexagonal in shape, has two tiers of blind arcading. The main dedicatory inscription, carved in relief between these tiers, reads: "REMEMBER THE MEN OF RICHMOND WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR COUNTRY IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1919." The names of those commemorated are recorded on a Roll of Honour inside the nearby church.
