Description

The war memorial is a stone cross, approximately 3 metres tall, located west of the tower of the former Church of St John the Evangelist, now known as The Bishop Centre and part of Godolphin and Latymer School. The cross head is a cross pattee, decorated with blind Gothic tracery at its centre. The cross head sits upon a moulded foot, rising from a square shaft with chamfered edges. The shaft is supported by a small, square pedestal, which in turn stands on a low, square stone slab. The front face of the pedestal is inscribed with the dedication: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD / AND IN MEMORY OF / THE MEN OF THIS PARISH / WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES / FOR HONOUR / AND FREEDOM / IN THE GREAT WAR / 1914-1918."
