Description
Godolphin and Latymer School is a school building constructed in 1861 by Charles H Cooke. It features yellow brick with red brick bands and stone dressings, topped by a slate roof. The main elevation faces south and consists of a central block that is three storeys high with dormers, designed in a largely symmetrical layout with nine bays. The ends of the building are set forward under gables, and there is a two-storey canted oriel window. Most of the windows are square-headed, with mullions and transoms, except for those in the gables, which are pointed. The six gabled dormers also have pointed windows with "y" tracery and the roof has a steep pitch at the eaves.
To the right of the main block is an advanced classroom wing that runs at right angles to the main structure. This wing is single-storeyed and features a tall five-light plate traceried pointed window with cusped oculi at the window head, along with squat buttresses on the flanks. The building includes a foundation stone, a steep pitched roof, and two fleches, as well as tall chimneys. There are additions to the right of the building that date from 1905, and further additions to the left of the main block from 1909, along with later 20th-century extensions to the south.
