Description
The Grange is a detached house built in 1889 and designed by Aston Webb. Constructed of plum brick with some fine red brick and stone bands, it has a steeply pitched red tiled roof. The design is a revival of early Georgian architecture. The house is two storeys high with dormers, and is seven windows wide, including a central two-storey canted bay window of rubbed brick. The windows are square headed, with one and two lights to the upper floors, featuring moulded timber mullions. Casement windows have small panes and glazing bars, and the first-floor windows have sliding slatted shutters. A modillion eaves cornice sits above the first floor. The roof has a central gable with two flat-topped dormer windows, and stepped end gables with Portland stone coping and cream stone bands, rising to moulded chimneystacks. A left-side return entrance is sheltered by a shell hood. The interior remains uninspected.
