Description
The Former Lambeth Waterworks Muniments Building is a structure dating from 1850 to 1852, designed by James Simpson in a Romanesque style. Originally built as a muniments building for the Lambeth Waterworks, it is now used as a store. The building is constructed of stock brick in English bond, featuring sandstone dressings and a hipped slate roof with a moulded sandstone cornice. It is a single storey with a layout of nine bays along the long sides and three bays at each end.
On the north east elevation, there are three large recessed panels, each containing three round-headed arches with Diocletian windows, along with sandstone impost blocks and plinths. The second and fifth openings from the left have round-headed doorcases with double wooden doors and built-in fanlights. The south west elevation mirrors this design but includes one doorcase in the second arch from the left. Each end elevation also features a similar panel with three Diocletian windows.
Inside, the roof is supported by metal trusses. In 1995, the building became part of a hall of residence complex for Kingston University.
