Description
The former Chelsea Waterworks Office and Lodge, also known as Building No. 11, is a lodge with office accommodation built in 1860 by James Simpson for the Chelsea Waterworks Company. It is designed in the Italianate style and constructed of stock brick with a hipped slate roof. The northwest elevation features a central projecting section with a pediment that contains a clock face and three round-headed windows. To the right, there is a set-back section with two round-headed arches, while the left side has a lean-to canopy. The southwest front has nine round-headed windows and includes a tall, narrow campanile tower of two stages, which may have originally served as a ventilation shaft for the steam railway tunnel that leads to the coal store. In 1995, the building became part of a hall of residence complex for Kingston University.
