Description
Westlink House, formerly known as the Pyrene II Factory, is a building designed by Wallis, Gilbert and Partners in 1928, although it has been altered since then. It features a modernistic style that is symmetrical and rectilinear, with a rendered exterior. The building is primarily two storeys high and is situated on a raised bank.
The most prominent feature is the central tower, which has stepped haunches and abstract moulded elements at the top. This tower includes a recessed panel that originally housed three tiers of three narrow windows above the entrance, which is now framed by geometric decoration and has been converted to a window. The entrance is accentuated by prominent front steps that split into sideways flights and are supported by square buttressing.
The long wings of the building are characterized by horizontal lines and a gridwork of twelve large windows, which were originally small-framed but have been altered to feature large panes. The terminal windows are narrow and set in slightly advanced sections. The parapet has ribbed panels and raised sections at the corners. The rear parts of the building are not of special interest, and a later six-window section to the left is not included in the listing.
