Description
Cowley House is an 18th-century building that was altered and enlarged in the 19th century. It is constructed of brown brick with red dressings and features three storeys, with five sets of three double-hung sash windows that have flat arches. The building has pilasters at the corners that extend through the first and second storeys. On the left side, there is a two-storey splayed bay, while the right side has a 19th-century stone porch with a cement-finished second storey and a parapet. The cornice is topped with modern blue pantiles.
Inside, there are decorations that have survived from the mid-18th century. On the first floor, the rooms in the northeast and southeast corners feature original panelling; one has a box cornice, and the other has a chimney piece with marble inserts. The ground floor southeast room also has a similar chimney piece and panelling, while the southwest room showcases decorative plasterwork and a later marble fireplace of good quality.
