Description
The London Coal Duty Marker, located on the footpath at the county boundary about 880 metres northwest of Wellington Grove, dates from 1861. It was cast by H. Grissell at the Regents Canal Ironworks. This cast-iron square pier stands one and a half metres high and features chamfered corners and a pyramidal cap. The necking displays the City of London crest, while the front face of the shaft has raised lettering that reads '24 and 25 Vict/Cap 42', indicating the extent of coal duty to the boundaries of the Metropolitan Police District.
