Description
No. 118 High Street is a mid-18th century building that conceals a 17th-century structure. It has two storeys, an attic, and a sunk basement, featuring five windows. The high-pitched roof is hipped on the left and is now covered with slate. There is one flat dormer. The building is constructed of brown brick with a parapet, and red brick dressings include a cornice band, parapet coping, and gauged flat window arches. The basement plinth is rendered. The sash windows have old flush moulded frames, although the first-floor windows have been replaced. Access is via three steps leading to a late 18th-century six-panel door set in a panelled reveal, complete with an architrave and keyblock. The doorcase features fluted pilasters, entablatures, and an open pediment. The rear view reveals the 17th-century shape, characterized by a very high-pitched hipped tiled roof. Nos. 118 to 120, along with Nos. 122 and 123, form a group.
