Description
St Catherine's Farmhouse is a 17th century timber-framed building that has been concealed by a late 19th-century exterior. It features a high-pitched hipped tiled roof with old brick chimneys located at the west and north sides. The main south front is two storeys high with three windows. The first floor is roughcast with mock timbering, while the ground floor is brick. The windows are modern leaded casements, with three lights and four lights.
Inside, the western part of the farmhouse appears to have originally been a two-bay structure with a crown-post roof, possibly serving as the cross-wing of a hall. However, significant alterations have occurred in the eastern part. Remaining timbers suggest a recessed centre bay, indicating a Wealden-type house. Although the roof timbers have been replaced, there are still very heavy chamfered ceiling beams. The interior also includes two brick fireplaces with Tudor arches, one of which is under a relieving arch, as well as a Tudor-arched plastered fireplace that features Jacobean panelling above.
