Description

Magnolia House, the Laurels, the Chestnuts, and Beech Cottage are houses that have been subdivided into four units. They are built of brick in Flemish bond with gauged brick lintels and have stucco that is scored to imitate ashlar, painted, with hipped roofs covered in slate. The buildings are two and three storeys high.

The main south-facing block, which is three storeys tall, is divided between Magnolia and Chestnut Houses and features a three-window range. The entrance to Chestnut House is set back from the front wall of the high block to the left and has two windows over two storeys, constructed of brick. Originally, the stucco block had a pair of bays flanking the entrance, but these have been removed. The fenestration of the high block follows a 2:1:2 pattern, with an elliptical-arched entrance in the centre. There is a Tudor-style entrance porch added in the early 20th century to Chestnut House. To the left side of Magnolia House, there is a two-storey rectangular bay with an apsidal projection in brick, which may have been rebuilt to reflect an original design in the late 20th century.

At the rear, Beech Cottage consists of two two-storey service ranges from the 19th and 20th centuries. The Laurels, which is on the left side, is also stuccoed and painted, standing three storeys tall and scored to imitate ashlar. It features a two-storey canted bay on the rear elevation. Between the apsidal projection on the left side and the main elevation of Laurel House, there is a recessed brick range.

These buildings, along with Glenthorne, Perryfield, Grenedehar, The Firs, Acacia House, and Highfield Cottage, form a cohesive group that was created from the former Magnolia House.
