  1. Cinema. Opened 1937. Designed by J Owen Bond; Theodore Komisarjevsky responsible for interior decoration. Brown brick. Roof not visible. Corner site. Reticent exterior with cantilevered canopy over central entrance, and large central window above of 7 lights within stone frame. Black tile cladding to ground storey to front and part of return. Fine interior with double height stripped classical entrance hall having tall pilasters decorated with cartouches; spacious stairway to gallery with decorative metal balustrade. Auditorium tripled by enclosing stalls below gallery but retains its fine classical decoration. Paired giant order fluted pilasters flanking proscenium; triple arched decorative screens with pilasters between to either side. Decorative frieze, partly with decorative openwork grille and with painted idealised processional scenes above decorative grilles. Rich cornice. Rich ceiling coffering above stalls and circle and fine original chandeliers. Wurlitzer organ.
