Description
This is a house built in 1893 by A Mitchell for Adolf Hildesheim. It's constructed of red brick in English bond, with the first floor of the front elevation rendered. The roof is covered in plain tiles. The house is two storeys with an attic, arranged in five bays. It features small-pane wooden windows with mullions and transoms. Steps lead to the entrance in the fourth bay, which has a door consisting of small-pane glazing over three panels, set within a round archway and sheltered by a bracketed canopy. To the right of the entrance is a small window with an apron panel, and to the left a canted bay window with one, three, and one lights, and dentilled eaves. A high wooden cornice runs along the top of the house, interrupted by a tall central stair window of two by three lights, flanked by two cross-windows on either side. There is a modillioned eaves cornice and two segmental-arched dormers in the roof. The roof verges are raised and finished with coping, and there are corniced end stacks. At the rear, there's a canted bay window with a central double door, a small window to the right, and a three-light window to the left. The rear eaves are lower than those at the front, rising above the first-floor windows which are three and four lights. The interior has not been inspected. Contemporary publications, The Builder and The Architect, featured the building in 1893 and 1895 respectively.
