Description
No 315 on Station Road is a bank building designed in 1915 by Sir Banister Fletcher. It features a vigorous and unconventional classical style, constructed from fine red brick on a pink granite base. The building is designed in a temple form, with a short pedimented end facing the front and a long return side to the right, situated on a corner site. It employs a pseudo-peripteral Tuscan order, with the front canted forward beneath the pediment, which has an aedicula window set in front of it, resting on the entablature. The order is defined by pilasters and three-quarter columns, some of which are rusticated. The entrance is located in the right bay and features rusticated brickwork with a swagged panel above it. Enriched scrolls support the aedicule, which encloses an arched window.
