Description
This is a row of six houses, numbered 15 to 25, built in 1829 by Joseph Kay. The unified design of the row has been somewhat altered by later rebuilding of the western angle. Each house is three storeys high and generally has three windows, although numbers 18 and 20 have two windows, and number 25 has one. The roofs are slate mansard roofs, topped with round arched dormers. The exterior is stuccoed.
A detailed entablature, finished with a blocking course, runs across the front. In the left section (numbers 24 and 25), there are four flat, Doric pilasters. The central section (number 19 and the inner bays of numbers 18 and 20) features four attached Ionic columns set back from the facade. Flanking bays to the centre are defined by two pilasters (the outer bays of numbers 18 and 20). All windows are sash windows with glazing bars, although some have been replaced. The second-floor windows are short and have a cill band; those in the four leftmost bays and the centre flanking bays are segment-headed. A three-light window is present in the second bay from the left, with a segmental arched recess above on the first floor. Moulded architraves highlight some windows on the left and in the centre, with those on the first floor featuring a frieze and cornice. An all-metal iron balcony runs along the front, interrupted only by the entrance pediment of number 19. Modern shops occupy the ground floors.
Numbers 15 to 25 are a group with number 19 King William Walk.
