Description
Nos. 9 to 13, St German's Place form a range of houses built in the early 19th century, with Nos. 10 and 11, and Nos. 12 and 13 dating to the second quarter of the 19th century. No. 9 is an early 19th century house of two storeys and a basement, originally with four windows, with the two right-hand windows in a rounded, three-storey bay. A two-storey and attic, one-window extension is at the right, featuring an open entrance and garage. There is also a two-storey, one-window extension to the left. The roof is low-pitched slate, with a hipped section on the left, and one gabled dormer in the right section. The construction is in multicoloured brick, with gauged flat brick arches over sash windows with glazing bars on the first floor, and over casements with glazing bars on the ground floor. A loggia with a half-glazed door is located at the ground floor left, accessed by five steps.
Nos. 10 and 11 are a pair, stucco-faced with a frieze, cornice, and a parapet concealing the roof, and a first-floor sill band. They have sash windows with glazing bars, although some of the first-floor windows of No. 10 and all of those of No. 11 have been replaced. A two-storey set-back garage extension is located at the left of No. 10, with a door in the angle. No. 11 has a basement brought forward to accommodate three garages, and features a wrought iron balcony on the ground floor. A two-storey and basement set-back extension is on the right, with a renewed door in the angle.
Nos. 12 and 13 are a pair, also stucco-faced, mirroring No. 10 and 11 with a frieze, cornice, and a parapet concealing the roof, and a first-floor sill band. They have renewed sash windows with glazing bars. Set-back extensions are on both sides; the extension to No. 12 is two storeys and a basement, while that of No. 13 is two storeys with a door in the angle. The entrance bay of No. 12 has been brought forward almost flush with the front, featuring vermiculate rusticated quoins on the ground floor and a round arched window with a moulded architrave and keystone above.
Nos. 9 to 16 (consec) are considered a group.
