Description

The buildings at 24-28 Greenwich Church Street, dating from circa 1829, were originally part of a market area composition. They are a group of three buildings, each of three storeys. Numbers 24 and 26 have two windows each, and number 28 has one window. The buildings are constructed of stucco and feature an entablature and a panelled parapet. The parapet is supported by two Doric pilasters on either side, and two Ionic half columns in the centre, with wreaths incorporated into the frieze above the pilasters. A band replaces what would have been a cornice. A round-headed, shaped gable end sits over the central section. The sash windows have glazing bars and simple reveals. A sill string runs across the first floor. Modern shops occupy the ground floor level. Number 28 has a four-bay return to Durnford Street, matching the style of the main building with its pilasters.
