Description
West Lodge at the Royal Military Academy is an entrance lodge built in 1862. It is designed in the Tudor Revival style and constructed from red brick and stucco with stone dressings. The building features a brick rear lateral stack and a slate hipped roof, with a single-depth plan.
The exterior consists of a single storey and has a four-window range. The rectangular block includes a lower front two-window bay, a stucco plinth with roll-top moulding, and a string course, along with roll-top coping to the crenellated parapet. The flat-headed windows have label mouldings and stucco chamfered mullions with transom windows. The stack displays moulded corbelling at the top section, and the crenellations step down to enclose the rear yard.
The lodge is paired with the East Lodge and is part of a group that includes the northwest gateway, forming the western entrance to the Royal Military Academy. The interior has not been inspected.
