Description
The Royal Artillery Barracks Number 1 and 2 South-West Gate is a single-storey building with three wide bays, dating from the early 19th century and featuring some alterations. It is constructed of multicoloured stock brick and has a moderately low pitched, hipped slate roof. The building has a stone mutule eaves cornice with a blocking course and a projecting central section beneath a stone pediment.
There is a Tuscan portico supported by four columns, although this has been bricked up and replaced with a modern door and windows. Modern windows have also been added to the right and left bays, but the wide segmental arches of the original windows are still visible. The south return faces Charlton Park Lane and features a wide, central, segment-arched recess that contains a modern door. To the left, there is a blank window, while to the right, a restored sash window with glazing bars can be found. Additionally, a small modern window has been inserted between the left and centre bays.
