Description
This is a pair of houses at 83 and 85 Lee Road, dating from the second quarter of the 19th century. They are two storeys with an attic and basement, and each house originally had one window in a central block topped with a pedimented gable and another window in a recessed section containing the side entrance. The houses are rendered in stucco. They have two segment-arched sash windows with glazing bars in the tympanum of the gable. The central section features paired pilasters at the centre and angles, which support an entablature. The cornice of this entablature is continuous with the soffit of the side elevations. The pilasters rest on a blocking course above the basement. A cill band is present within the pilasters on the first floor. The sash windows have moulded architraves, the majority retaining their original glazing bars, and those on the ground floor are topped with console bracketed cornices. Steps lead to plain prostyle porches with square columns. The doors are four-panelled, with the upper panels glazed, and have cornice heads and rectangular fanlights. The houses are part of a group that includes numbers 63 to 89 (odd).
