Description

This is an early to mid-17th century house originally built as a single dwelling, later divided and refaced in the mid to late 18th century. It is now two properties, numbers 20 and 22 Cromms Hill. The house is three storeys high and has three windows arranged irregularly. Number 20 is built of yellow stock brick, while number 22 is of multicoloured stock brick. The roof is steeply pitched and now covered with machine tiles. The windows are recessed sash windows with glazing bars; the ground floor windows of number 22 have been replaced. Windows in number 20 have gauged flat brick arches and stucco-lined reveals, while those in number 22 have moulded stucco architraves. The front of each property is enhanced by a prostyle Tuscan porch, which features balls instead of modillions on the cornice. The entrance doors are six-panelled, with the two upper panels glazed. Number 20 features a patterned radial fanlight above its door, while number 22 has a rectangular fanlight with glazing bars. Cast iron area railings are present at number 20. Numbers 6 to 46 (even), and numbers 38 and 40 on the West Side of Cromms Hill form a group of listed buildings.
