Description
32 and 34 Crooms Hill are two adjoining buildings located on the west side of Crooms Hill in Greenwich, London. Number 32 dates from around 1800 and features three storeys, an attic, and a basement, with three windows across its façade. The high-pitched roof has been renewed with machine tiles and includes flat dormers. The front is rendered and has a parapet and plinth. The second floor has sash windows with glazing bars, while the first floor has sash windows with margin lights. The ground floor features late 19th-century sash windows, all set in old flush frames. The entrance door is from the 19th century and consists of two large, plain panels with a rectangular fanlight above. Inside, there is an original staircase with twist balusters and square newels.
Number 34, dating from around 1700, has undergone alterations and also has three storeys and a basement with three windows. It features a high-pitched, tiled roof and is constructed of brown brick with a parapet. The second floor has a brick band in two planes, while the basement is stuccoed. The recessed sash windows, which have glazing bars, are adorned with gauged, flat brick arches in stucco-lined reveals. The entrance door consists of six fielded panels and is topped with a patterned fanlight of the plate type, featuring small, radial panelled pilasters with round arches. On the north side, there is a projecting gabled wing that is three storeys high and has one window. This wing is rendered and features angle pilasters at the ground floor, a first-floor band, and a plinth. The sash windows on the first and second floors are recessed, with the first-floor window being a three-light design with a round head in the centre, creating a Venetian effect. The ground floor window is set in a near-flush moulded frame.
Together, these buildings, along with others on the west side of Crooms Hill from numbers 6 to 46 (even) and numbers 38 and 40, form a cohesive group of listed buildings.
