Description

A row of six terraced buildings, numbers 34 to 42 Greenwich Church Street, was constructed in 1829, likely by Joseph Kay. They were designed as part of a larger market plan, forming a unified composition. Each building is three storeys high, originally with two windows per floor. The buildings are faced in stucco. The outer two bays at each end of the row project slightly and are emphasised with Doric pilasters. The central bays are divided by five Ionic half-columns. An entablature and parapet run above the ground floor, incorporating wreaths in the frieze above the pilasters. The window reveals are plain and contain replaced sash windows with glazing bars. Modern shop fronts occupy the ground floor. Number 34 has a four-bay return frontage to Durnford Street, constructed in a similar style with pilasters.
