Description

The north boundary wall, entrance gateway, and spur wall with gateway are located in the grounds to the north of the house known as "The Tilt Yard." This structure dates back to the early 16th century and features a very high red brick outer wall with sloped coping. Later additions include inner sloping buttresses. The tall gateway has a chamfered, four-centred arch, with the wall stepped up above it and a diagonal course below the sloped coping. Inside, there are splayed, sloped buttresses. A lower spur wall runs south from just east of the gateway and contains a similar but lower gateway.
