Description
Capel House is a mid to late 18th century house featuring a main block of two storeys and an attic, with seven windows, accompanied by two-storey side wings that each have one window. The house has a gambrel roof covered with graduated green slates and includes five flat dormers. The brick walls are painted red and are adorned with a moulded brick cornice and a stone-coped parapet at the first-floor level. The sash windows, which have glazing bars, are topped with gauged flat brick arches.
The central porch is mostly glazed and is supported by two projecting columns that hold up an entablature that is broken forward in the centre. The entrance door consists of six fielded panels and features a patterned fanlight. The rear elevation is similar but has a Roman Doric central porch with an open mutuled pedimented hood and fancy interlaced bars on the fanlight. Inside, there are rich interiors from the late 19th century designed in a reproduction Restoration style, showcasing extensive carving and panelling.
