Description
172 and 174 Baker Street is an early to mid-18th century house that stands two storeys high with an attic and features three windows. It has a tiled gambrel roof with stone-coped gable ends and dormers. The building is constructed of painted brick and has a stone-coped parapet with side pilasters. The later sash windows are set beneath segmental arches. The entrance door, which has a modern reeded surround, consists of six fielded panels and two beaded panels, with a glazed top section, and is located in the left window space under a cornice hood. The centre window on the first floor is round. At the south end of the house, there is a small mid to late 19th century shop that projects from the side and is weatherboarded. Number 172 includes the shop and a small part of the house, while number 174 comprises the remainder of the house.
