Description
The stable ranges to the west of Forty Hall are 17th century buildings that have been significantly altered for modern use. They are constructed of red brick and feature tiled roofs. The stable building located on the north side of the courtyard, which is now used as an art gallery, has somewhat flimsy queen strut roof trusses. Modern extensions connect this stable to a barn on the east side of the courtyard, which now serves as a banqueting hall. This barn has a sturdier queen strut roof with purlins at two levels and some windbraces, as well as collars at the upper purlin levels. At the north end of the barn, there is a beam with a stop-chamfer that has a wineglass-shaped stop. The building also features blocked slit windows with splayed jambs.
