Description

The screen wall, gateway, and north pavilions to the west of Forty Hall date from around 1630. This embattled wall features sloped brick coping and a brick cornice, which steps up to large buttressed piers topped with pinnacles and ball finials. Between these piers is a pedimented Dutch gable above a central round arch, which is designed in two planes and includes a rusticated architrave, jambs, and a keystone. Smaller side arches also have keystones. The structure is complemented by wrought iron gates and small pavilions on either side.
