Description
Dower House and Atherton House, likely built in the second quarter of the 17th century, underwent significant alterations in the early and mid-18th century. The Dower House, located at the east end, features a main east front with two storeys and an attic, displaying three windows under one gable and two windows under another. The outer walls are primarily red brick, with much of it likely rebuilt in the 18th century. A first-floor band steps up in the center and at the sides. The sash windows have glazing bars and are set in exposed moulded frames, while the ground floor windows are early 19th-century long casements. The door consists of six fielded panels, with the top panels glazed, set in a fluted reveal. The doorcase is adorned with fluted Ionic columns, a modified entablature, and a pediment-like hood. The north front features three gables in a similar style. The doorcase of Atherton House is similar but lacks the hood. The west front shows some older brickwork in English bond. On the north side of Atherton, there is an early 19th-century stuccoed facade with angle pilasters and early 19th-century sash windows with glazing bars.
