Description

The George and Dragon Public House and Number 185 is a building with two distinct periods of construction. The left side dates from the late 18th century and features three storeys and three bays, with a single blank window in the centre bay on the first floor. It has sash windows and a painted brick front, along with a well-preserved Edwardian public house front at the ground level. The right side of the building is from the 17th century, constructed with timber framing and a stucco front, topped with a slate roof. This section has two bays and two storeys, with a carriage entrance under the bay window on the left and a modern shop at ground level on the right. The building's origins are evident from the rear, showcasing jettying and some 18th-century sash windows. Although the interior has been largely altered, it features what appears to be an 18th-century staircase with turned balusters and a closed string.
