Description
The chimney at Acton Swimming Baths was built in 1904 by D J Ebbetts, who was the Surveyor to Acton Borough Council, for the Public Baths. It is made of red and brown brick with terracotta decoration at the upper part. The chimney has a square, tapered design, featuring terracotta detailing that includes an architrave surround on each face beneath a concave top. This detailing is connected by heavy cornice bands that cross linked pilasters and guttae at each corner. The design is notably attractive and is similar to a chimney designed by Maurice B Adams for the public baths at Wells Way in London in 1902, which likely served as inspiration. The rest of the swimming baths do not hold special interest.
