Description
The building is an early to mid-19th century single oast house with an attached drying shed, located to the north of Portlands. The drying shed is now used as a stable. The structure is built of flint rubble, featuring brick lacing bands, alternating block quoins, and flat pilasters. There is a loading door under the gable on the right side and a flat dormer on the left. The ground floor windows are semi-circular with radial bars, set under gauged brick arches. The cowl is missing from the oast, and double doors have been inserted on the ground floor. A curved flight of steps leads up the side of the oast, connecting with a wall made of brick and flint that runs along the road front. A similar wall extends from the southeast corner of the former drying shed, enclosing the yard to the east and north. The oast house, drying shed, attached walls, stable buildings, and Portlands Cottage together form a cohesive group.
