Description
Number 9 is a house located in Hampstead Garden Suburb, built in 1935 according to the designs of G. G. Winbourne. The house is constructed of brick with painted render and features flat roofs. It has Crittall windows and is two storeys tall, with roof-top structures and a glazed stair tower. The design follows the International Modern style and includes a three-window range. The elevation showcases a recessed entrance with balconies on the first floor and a roof terrace, along with curved quadrants on the projecting side ranges. The metal strip windows complement the curves, and there are first-floor French doors. The original door design features a metal grille made of French curves. This house is the most intact structure in the close, with a later garage added to the right that is designed in a highly sympathetic and somewhat Corbusian manner, providing an elegant solution for incorporating a garage in a sensitive historic environment. Numbers 1-13/15 (odd) and 2-18 (even) Lytton Close together form an excellent and noteworthy group of International Modern houses.
