Description
The Henrietta Barnett Junior School is a two-storey building with single-storey wings, located on Bigwood Road in Hampstead Garden Suburb, built from purple brick with small red dressings and topped with hipped tile roofs. The main elevation facing Bigwood Road features a prominent central section that projects forward, consisting of two storeys and three window bays. The central door is framed by a slightly eared architrave and a pulvinated frieze. Above this, there is an unusually high broken pediment with an urn feature at the apex. The parapet is adorned with urns at the corners.
On the first floor, there are three sash windows with recessed panels above them on the parapet. The hipped roof is topped by a cupola with a copper-covered base, featuring a cavetto roof of copper and round-headed lead or copper lights. The single-storey wings have a plain sash window treatment, and there are three dormers on the roof flanking the central section, while the single-storey wings do not have dormers. The ends of these wings each feature one high sash window that rises above the eaves, finished with a cornice and pediment.
