Description
The building comprises a block of flats constructed between 1911 and 1913, designed by Barry Parker and Raymond Unwin as part of the Hampstead Garden Suburb. It is located on the north side of Addison Way. The construction is primarily of red brick in Flemish bond, with tiled roofs; the end units have hipped roofs with swept eaves, and all eaves are boxed. The building is two storeys high with hipped dormers. A thirteen-window range block extends along the length, with a one-window range on the recessed returns. The end units are three storeys high, incorporating a one-window range to their inside returns and faces. Entrances are accessed via a porch-walkway, including stair ramps along the canted end ranges and centrally. Wood rails enclose the walkway; ground- and first-floor entrances are arranged on axis, with varied fenestration including paired windows to the ground floor and single windows with shallow canted bays above. Four axial stacks are present along the ridge. The treatment of the end wings resembles a tower and demonstrates a Germanic influence, similar to the design of numbers 37-43 (odd) and 28-38 (even) Hogarth Hill. The rear elevation features three-storey corners with tile hanging to the second floor and hipped roofs. The centre range projects and includes a twenty-window range with eight hipped dormers mirroring those on the main elevation, along with skylights inserted above the sixth and seventh ranges. Most ground floor glazing and doors have been altered, contrasting with the main elevation where much of the original window casements and doors remain.
