Description

The Monken Hadley War Memorial is situated on Monken Hadley Common and features a tall stone cross that rises from a three-stepped base. The front of the cross and the upper section of the shaft are adorned with intricate Celtic-style floral carvings. There is a shield that once displayed the inscription "TO THE EVER GLORIOUS MEMORY OF OUR MEN WHO FELL IN THE WAR, 1914 - 1919," but this has eroded to the point of being unreadable. The remainder of the shaft lists the names of the Fallen.

On the front face of the second step of the base, there is a modern metal plaque that reads: "MONKEN HADLEY WAR MEMORIAL / IN PROUD MEMORY OF ALL THOSE / WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR COUNTRY IN / 1914 - 1918 AND 1939 - 1945."
