Description

Nos 2 to 8 Erskine Hill is a two-storey block designed by architect Sir Edwin Lutyens. The building features dormers, with Nos 2 and 8 having hipped roofed projections, while Nos 4 and 6 are recessed and consist of five window bays. The slope of the ground has influenced the facade design. No 2 has a central door in a Queen Anne style heavy frame, complete with a simple oval lozenge pattern fanlight. There is a cornice at the first floor level, and the first floor windows are half dormers with cornices above them. No 8 features a central door with an architrave, pulvinated frieze, frieze block, and cornice. The first floor windows extend between the cornices and eaves, except for the central window, which rises into the roof as a half dormer and serves as a staircase window. Two hipped dormers are present on No 8, but not on No 2. The chimney stacks are characteristic of Lutyens' style. The building is constructed of grey brick with red brick dressings. Nos 4 and 6 have entrance doors located at bays 1 and 5, matching the pattern of the door at No 8. The central bay features a tradesman's door similar to the front door of No 2, and above each principal door is a half dormer staircase window like that at No 8, along with two hipped dormers above.
