Description
This is a two-storey, three-bay house built in the 19th century. Designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, it is constructed of grey brick with red brick dressings. The front elevation features a central doorway with red brick pilasters and a small cornice above a blind tympanum decorated with a moulded plaster or wood arabesque in a baroque pattern. Above the doorway is a tall staircase window which breaks into the roof as a half dormer, set within a red brick projecting framework topped with a pulvinated frieze, cornice and pediment. A hipped dormer is located within the roof above this. The ground floor windows on either side of the door are sash windows. The first floor windows are casements set slightly recessed within the brickwork. A two-bay return elevation faces the forecourt of numbers 10 and 12. The side elevation facing Temple Fortune Hill features a brick canted bay, which rises as a parapet above the eaves, incorporating a semi-circular headed window set within red brick pilasters and arch, with small springing and keystones. A dormer window is positioned behind the parapet.
