Description
The obelisk on the railway embankment, located approximately 280 meters east of Whalebone Bridge, dates from around 1861. This coal tax post marks the extent of the Metropolitan Police District. It stands 6 feet high and is made of polished red granite, tapering to a point, and is set on a stone base with moulded capping. The face of the obelisk that is inscribed faces the railway line.
