Description

The Coal Duty Obelisk, located on the west side of the Lea Navigation in Wormley, was erected around 1861 to mark the boundary of the London coal duty. It is one of only two such obelisks in the county. This granite structure stands approximately one and three-quarter metres high and has a base measuring half a metre square, tapering to a flattened pyramid top. The east face features a carved City of London crest and the inscription "14815 Vic, C146."
