Description

Crown Farmhouse is a late 16th-century house with two storeys and attics, featuring a main east front that has four unequal bays. It is likely a lobby-entry type with an additional bay added to the north. The entrance is now located between the two southern bays. The windows are all sashes, with one fixed window in the upper north bay. The 18th-century door has an eared architrave, pulvinated moulding, and a box cornice supporting a shallow hood. The walls are rendered, and the roof is covered with old tiles. A massive brick stack with six diamond flues, along with a moulded brick base and capping, is prominent. There is a stair turret on the west elevation, which has a blocked diamond mullioned window visible in the attic. A rear wing to the south contains good late 18th-century interior fittings in the old kitchen. There is a 19th-century extension that houses the door between the two rear wings. The north fireplace of the main stack features a very fine carved bressumer with elongated palmettes between large rosettes.
