Description

This is a row of six terraced houses located at 56-62 Upper Montagu Street, London W1. They were built around 1810 to 1820 as part of John Thomas Parkinson’s development of Montagu Square on the Portman Estate, and share a similar design with the properties at numbers 42 to 50. The houses are constructed of stock brick with concealed slate roofs. They are four storeys high and each front has two windows. The shop fronts were altered in the mid-19th century and again in the mid-20th century. The upper floors feature recessed sash windows, some with glazing bars, set within flat, gauged arches, and have stucco reveals. The building has a parapet with stone coping. It is listed at Group Value, meaning it is important in the context of the surrounding group of buildings.
