Description

Numbers 4 and 5 Clifton Villas, including the gateway to number 5, are a pair of houses dating from the mid-19th century. The properties are constructed of brick, faced with stucco, and have a concealed roof. They extend to three storeys and a basement, with a four-bay facade arranged as 1, 2, and 1 bays, featuring a slight projection in the centre. The narrow side bays contain entrances, accessed by a flight of steps, and have four-panel doors with overlights, topped by a cornice supported on consoles. The sash windows have glazing bars or margin lights, although the ground-floor window of number 4 is a four-pane sash within an architrave. The ground-floor windows have pediments on consoles and the first-floor windows have cornices. The facade is banded horizontally and features a cornice. A railed enclosure defines the basement level. Number 5 has a gateway leading to its front garden, consisting of stucco piers and a lintel.
