Description

The building at 1-5 Trebeck Street is a block of terraced houses dating from the late or possibly mid-18th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century to the front facades. The roofs are slate-covered, and the building has a basement, four storeys, and dormered mansards. Nos. 1 and 3 each have a front of two windows, while No. 5 has a three-window front and a two-window return elevation facing Shepherd Market. A late 20th-century shop window and doorway are present at No. 1. No. 3 retains the frame of an early 20th-century shop front, with fascia, cornice, and mid-20th-century glazing and doorway. No. 5 has a mid-20th-century projecting shop front. The upper floors feature recessed sash windows with flat arches and no glazing bars. The parapets have copings, and No. 5 has balustrades incorporating a tablet inscribed “Running Horse”. The building is fronted by plain cast iron area railings. It is part of the Shepherd Market development, which was laid out around 1735 and built around 1746 by Edward Shepherd, who developed properties on the Grosvenor and Cavendish Estates.
