Description

This is a terraced town house located on Upper Brook Street, dating to 1736, with alterations made in the early 19th century. The house is constructed of red brick with a slate roof, and stands three storeys high, including a basement and attic. It has a three-window frontage. The doorway, located on the right-hand side, was altered around 1800 and now features a six-panel door with side lights within a fluted frame, incorporating square angle steps and a fanlight detailed with delicate ironwork. The recessed sash windows are topped by flat, gauged arches, except for those on the first floor, which are French casements. A brick cornice band runs above the second floor, and the attic has a stone coping to the parapet. Early 19th-century cast iron balconettes are present on the first floor. Wrought iron area railings with urn finials add to the exterior detail. The interior retains some original features from the 1730s, including cornices, mouldings, doors, and two fireplaces. The staircase has an early 19th-century iron balustrade, which was likely moved to its present position as late as 1925. Some sympathetic neo-Georgian work was undertaken at that time.
