Description
No. 24 Culross Street is a stable block built in the early 1820s, likely adapted by Philip Wyatt during renovations at the nearby No. 40 Upper Brook Street, possibly to create a first-floor ballroom. The building features a brick and stucco construction with a slate roof. The front elevation, which includes an early 20th-century garage facing Culross Street, is not of particular interest. However, the north elevation is a well-proportioned two-storey neo-classical design with three bays. The central bay on the first floor is slightly set forward and contains a tripartite glazing bar sash window within a recessed segmental arch. The flanking bays feature recessed glazing bar sashes with blind rectangular panels above. The building is topped with a parapet that has coping, and a pyramidal slate roof is crowned by a small square timber cupola with a clock. The listing highlights the significance of the north elevation and the roof.
