Description

No. 35 Upper Brook Street is one of a pair of terraced town houses built in 1737, with a well-matched attic storey added in 1846. The building is constructed of brown brick and features rusticated quoins on the outer flank, which balance those of No. 36. It has a slate roof and stands three storeys high, plus a basement and attic storey, with a width of three windows.

The doorway is located to the right, mirroring that of No. 36, and is framed by a stone rusticated architrave with a broad keystone that has a vermiculated central key. This architrave breaks into a deeply moulded cornice, which frames a six-panel door with a radial glazed fanlight above. The ground floor features recessed glazing bar sash windows with red brick dressings and flat gauged red brick arches, also with vermiculated keystones. The upper floors have similar windows that retain their glazing bars, although the first-floor windows have been lowered through a sill course in the early 19th century.

A stone string course runs above the first floor, with a stone bracketed main cornice above the second floor and an attic cornice with a blocking course, all of which are continuous with No. 36. The first floor also features an early 19th-century stone balcony with a delicate cast iron balustrade. In front of the doorway, there are wrought iron area railings topped with torch finials, and a stone obelisk supports a wrought iron overthrow.

While the front of the building remains virtually unaltered, the interior has undergone significant changes.
